The fourth annual Resolution Run to Kick Cancer (RR2KC) will kick off the New Year this Saturday, Jan. 5, at 9 a.m. with race registration and a Health and Fitness Expo and an 11 a.m. race start at the Lexington High School Field House.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Cancer Society?s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Floating Hospital for Children?s Hematology Oncology Unit at Tufts Medical Center.
"Think winter running is hard? Try battling cancer.? is the Resolution Run to Kick Cancer?s motto. Last year close to 900 runners and walkers took up the cause.? Already more than 800 runners and walkers have registered to come out on a winter?s day to be healthy and help make a difference for those fighting cancer.?
?We are expecting more than 1,000 registrants this year?, says Ines Fusco, co-director of the Resolution Run to Kick Cancer. ?We are thrilled to have so many people participating and supporting the cause to kick cancer!?
The 5K road race begins at 11 a.m. at the Lexington High School Field House, with a fast, flat course through historical Lexington. Registration is $30 on the day of event.
This is a family fun event with awards and post-race food. Trophies will be awarded to the top three males/females in the following categories ? overall, cancer survivor, team, and top three in each age division. There will be an on-site photo booth for team and individual pictures.?
For the second year, Ipswitch, Inc. is the RR2KC?s Elite sponsor. Ipswitch is a Lexington-based software company that is committed to making a difference in its community. The Greater Boston Running Company is donating technical shirts to the first 400 registered participants.?
This year?s event is welcoming several school teams, running groups, and corporate, family and friend-based teams. The event opens at 9 a.m. in the Lexington High School Field House. There will be several cancer-related exhibits, clothing and shoe vendors, and product samples including:

During the Expo, RR2KC will host a donor recruitment drive to register potential bone marrow donors on behalf of Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation. Volunteers will swab cheeks in hope of finding matches for cancer patients in need of a marrow transplant.?
Also, The Floating Hospital for Children?s Hematology/Oncology unit will collect gently used games and movies for patients. Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Wii games and movie videos are appreciated.
