Splinter Cell: Blacklist a hybrid of Stealth and Action ? Video Games Update

Sam Fisher is back and better than ever in Blacklist or that is what Ubisoft was quick to tell the gamers who were really disappointed after seeing the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) reveal footage of the upcoming Splinter Cell title.

The game-play in the demo that Ubisoft showed at Microsoft?s press conference during E3 looked similar to that of the last Splinter Cell game, Conviction, which was more action oriented and didn?t focus enough on stealth, something the series is famous for.

Splinter Cell: Conviction was a great game, just not a great Splinter Cell game since gamers felt that Ubisoft had removed a lot of features found in the previous games that resulted in Conviction being an action title with little or no stealth. Basic features such as dragging and hiding the bodies and non lethal takedowns were replaced by Sam Fisher gunning down the opposition like every other run of the mill action hero without any consequences.

Even though the demo for Blacklist shown at E3 was more or less the same, Ubisoft has stated that there will be more stealth elements in the upcoming game and it will be up to the players to decide how they want to play the game.

"This demo gives you one taste of a different kind of Splinter Cell, but stealth is still a vital aspect of the game. You're gonna see lots of locations driven by darkness, but we wanted to show some variety and this was the best way to show it," said game director Patrick Redding in an interview in Official Xbox Magazine (OXM) but so far gamers have gotten the impression that Blacklist is pushing more towards action rather than stealth.

Another reason that many gamers are upset with the game is Ubisofts? decision to change the voice actor for Sam Fisher and the character model revamp which makes the 50-year-old protagonist look like he?s just pushing 30. Ubisoft explained the reason for the voice actor change was the publisher needed a young voice actor who would be able to perform motion capture for animations.

The game is being developed on a modified Unreal Engine 2.5 and will be released for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii-U and PC sometime in 2013.
